In addition to exploring a career as an MOA, you may be considering becoming a Medical Insurance Billing and Coding (MIBC) Specialist. These professionals often work together in healthcare settings but have different responsibilities and require different training.
While an MOA organizes and manages health information data, primarily patient medical records, an MIBC Specialist manages the billing process using medical diagnosis codes to seek payments from insurance providers.
Both MOA and MIBC roles typically require training programs or diplomas and, in some cases, associate degrees. MOA programs are generally nine months to two years long, with Brookline’s online MOA program taking just under nine months to complete. MIBC programs can often be completed in a year or less. After training, both MOAs and MIBCs usually need to obtain a professional certificate before landing a job. Brookline’s Career Services is dedicated to helping MOA students find employment after graduation and throughout their careers.
